Researching women who marry multiple times can be challenging, especially when marriages occurred in unexpected locations or before vital records were kept. Learn how newspaper research identified one woman's multiple marriages and led to the records that revealed the surprising details of Ida May Chamberlain’s colorful life.

Sharon Hoyt, CG, is a Bay Area genealogy researcher, speaker, and writer. Her article "Her Sixth Matrimonial Venture: The Many Marriages of Ida May Chamberlain" was a winner of the National Genealogical Society’s 2017 Family History Writing Contest. Sharon's work has appeared in the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society Record, and Minnesota Genealogist. She holds a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science.
