Inherit the Land: Jim Crow Meets Miss Maggie’s Will, is the story of antebellum white sisters who bequeathed their 800-acre homeplace to a Black man and his daughter in 1920, which caused a sensational trial.
Author Gene Stowe will discuss “What Is Family?” considering not only genetic but also adoptive families and other relationships that are recognized by the surrounding society, and unexpectedly moved two white juries to uphold Miss Maggie’s will.
Our meetings are free and open to the public.
